Canadian artist Jeff Bartels combines hyperrealism and surrealism. His highly detailed oil paintings have evolved over the years to this unique combination of seemingly contradictory styles. His work is sometimes referred to as hyperrealism or photorealism because of the extreme realism mixed with dream-like qualities.
Hyperrealism from Jeff Bartels
Jeff’s latest series of paintings explores the Post Truth phenomena we live in by blurring the lines between what’s real and what’s not. His oil paintings, entitled “Alternative Artifacts,” show an extremely detailed, hyperrealistic object from the past that never really existed. The series aims to stretch and bend the truth about our past to focus on the deceptions going on today.
